Gotu Kola Benefits for Skin: Why I Use It in Timeless Herb Tallow

Today I’m sharing my favorite herb in skincare: Gotu kola benefits for skin are the reason I keep coming back to this plant again and again.
There are certain botanicals I come back to again and again, not because they are trendy, but because they have earned their reputation over time. Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica) is one of them.
In skincare, Gotu Kola is often called tiger grass, and it’s known for supporting skin that looks calmer, stronger, smoother, and more resilient. What I love most is that it’s a “quiet powerhouse” it doesn’t rely on irritation or a harsh sensation to feel effective. Instead, it supports the look of healthy skin through consistency.

Why Gotu Kola is special
Gotu Kola contains naturally occurring plant compounds (including triterpenoids like asiaticoside and madecassoside) that have been widely studied in skin-related research. These compounds are often discussed in the context of supporting the skin’s visible recovery processes and promoting a healthier-looking appearance over time.
This is one reason Gotu Kola has become a beloved ingredient in modern “cica” skincare, especially for skin that feels sensitive, stressed, or easily irritated.
Why I chose a CO₂ extract
For my Timeless Herb Tallow, I wanted Gotu Kola to be more than just a supporting ingredient. That’s why I chose a Gotu Kola CO₂ extract.
CO₂ extraction helps preserve lipid-soluble components, which means the extract blends beautifully into an oil-based balm and stays aligned with the kind of formulas I love: rich, anhydrous, and barrier-supportive, without needing fillers or water. (And for sensitive skin, that simplicity matters.)
My infusion: Gotu Kola, Astragalus, and Olive Leaf
I also take the time to infuse my grass-fed, grass-finished tallow with a trio of organic herbs:
Organic Gotu Kola
Organic Astragalus root
Organic Olive leaf
This is my slow, traditional method. It’s not rushed. I want the balm to carry that “herbal depth” that you can feel in the way it comforts the skin.
Olive leaf has been researched for compounds like oleuropein, which has been studied in skin contexts including the look of recovery and collagen-related structure in wound models. Astragalus is also widely discussed in scientific literature for its antioxidant and skin-aging related pathways, which is one of the reasons it has such a long history of use.
(And yes, there are even modern cosmetic studies exploring Centella and Astragalus together in topical use, which I find fascinating.)
The antioxidant partners I love: Pomegranate CO₂ + sterols
To support the “timeless” theme, I also include organic pomegranate CO₂ and pomegranate sterols in my formula.
I love pomegranate because it’s rich in protective antioxidants that help skin maintain a smoother, brighter-looking appearance when used consistently, especially as part of a barrier-focused routine.
How I use Timeless Herb Tallow
I like applying a small amount to clean, slightly damp skin, then pressing it into the face and neck.
Morning: a thin layer for a calm, nourished glow
Night: a slightly richer layer as a recovery balm
A little goes a long way. This is not meant to sit thick on the skin, it’s meant to melt in and support your skin’s natural comfort and resilience.
Who this is for
I made this balm for people who want anti-aging support that feels gentle, steady, and elegant:
Dry or dehydrated skin
Sensitive or reactive skin
Skin that looks tired or stressed
Anyone who wants a barrier-supportive routine that layers well with other products
